For the first time in quite a while, I pondered for quite some time as to what I was going to write. When it occurred to me that a topic on “reflection” was pretty well suited for us all.
Several months ago I had a conversation with a dear colleague and mentor of mine. I had initiated the call in need of advice, the same advice that “I” am usually the one dishing out. After years and years of striving for success, attaining unforeseen goals; opening doors and opportunity, not only for myself, but for others as well; and eager to motivate and encourage the entire field of skin care professionals… I had reached a road block, a wall actually. I realized that I was discouraged and exhausted, frustrated and angry, embarrassed and disappointed; all with people, situations, and opportunities that I had faith and belief in. I desperately wanted to place blame somewhere. Somewhere that could instantly relieve me of my distress and make everything all OK. After all, it is usually me, “Miss Positivity” that makes everything OK. Of course after 20 minutes of venting on the telephone it hit me. I had fallen into the trap, the exact trap that I am constantly trying to help others recognize and avoid. The only person that was going to make everything, or for that matter, anything, OK… was ME.
I only felt the way I felt, because I allowed myself to feel that way. I realized that the place I most needed to relinquish faith, trust, and motivation was with myself. In placing that control in the hands of others I was giving up, I was quitting, and I was allowing other people and situations the opportunity to affect me.
Why on earth would anybody do such a thing? I do not know, honestly I do not. If I did I would probably be considered some type of miracle worker!
What I do know, is that life is full of amazing experiences, fabulous opportunities and individuals that, regardless of the situation, will forever leave a mark on your life. But is not that what life is all about?
That is exactly what life is all about. It is also what AIA is all about. The AIA family is striving to create amazing experiences, fabulous opportunities, and to connect individuals; so that when any one of you have your moment of weakness, and feel as though you have reached your road block, you need not think twice as to where to turn, I am here, we are here… AIA is here.
