Dear Member – December 2010

Tina ZillmannAs the year comes to an end, we reflect on the many paths that people have opened for us. Each one of us has been sailing on the sea of life and the winds have taken us in many directions. Some journeys contain trials and tribulations, while others can be characterized as smooth success and happiness. There are many other ways your life ship may flow, but all in all we can always reflect on three main anchors: past, present, and future.
AIA has accomplished many goals at the hands of dedicated and passionate individuals. We have achieved a standardized testing format that can be used across the nation. We have created an online community that links skin care professionals across the globe to share ideas and innovations with professionals and manufacturers and educate us all on the business of skin. We have benefits in line for AIA members with financing, insurance, and discounts on education. We have designed a network where spas and skin care facilities can create a profile and increase their online visibility. We have literature that educates you monthly through DERMASCOPE Magazine. Likewise, through DERMASCOPE, we co-sponsor trade shows and sponsor educational classrooms. We have built relationships with so many influential individuals that help the aesthetic industry grow stronger and have a voice. The AIA ship has sailed many voyages and is en route for the future with an online education campus for members that offers on demand videos and webinars. While many of these resources have been in place for decades, others came to bear this year after many years of hard work and dedication were tangibly realized.
It has been an exciting year for AIA with the birth of the Aesthetics Professional Network. So many people have joined our community in one fashion or another, which continues to broaden our horizons and stoke the flames of passion we have for serving this industry. The future holds many dreams for us all and we will captain the ship to the best of our abilities.
Although this is my last letter as president of AIA, I am exceedingly excited about my new role within the association. Throughout my term I have become passionate about the legislation of the aesthetics industry and I believe that there is much work still to be done on that front. Therefore, I will be heading the state legislative committee. Going forward our goal with AIA is to create a national standard for education and licensing of aesthetic professionals. My first step in achieving this goal will be to organize a representative from each state to continue pursuing advancement for aestheticians throughout the nation. If you or someone you know is active within your state legislation and would be interested in joining this committee, please complete the application on the AIA website at www.aiaprofessional.com and submit it to us for review.
Finally, I want to thank you all for blessing me with the opportunity to rekindle and participate in the advancement of aesthetics and the preservation of our talent. I look forward to many more years of progress.

Have a Wonderful Holiday and New Year,

Tina Zillmann
