Thersea BlueWhen I am not seeing clients… I am still very active in skin care. I read skin related articles and medical journals. I go to as many classes or trade shows as I can, and soon I am going to attend medical rounds with a dermatologist.

If I was not an aesthetician… I would be a bio-medical engineer. I originally went to college for it, once I found out that the majority of my day would be in a lab by myself I decided to look for something where I could help people face to face.

Best skin care tip… what you eat or do not eat is exceedingly important to the look and health of your skin. Drink tons of water, avoid white foods as much as possible (refined sugar, flour, potatoes, etcetera.) and take a multi-vitamin that contains EFAs daily.

My home… is wonderful. We moved into the house just recently. There is still decorating to do and furniture to buy, but the house is gorgeous inside and out.

Thersea BlueFavorite Fall/Winter trend… in the winter, you can wear eye makeup that is so much darker and more dramatic than in the summer, and you do not need to worry about it melting away in the heat. Deep plum or emerald shades are my favorite.

My obsession… I love farmers’ markets! You can save so much money on vegetables and flowers. By talking to the vendors, you can learn new cooking recipes. Sometimes the vendors will give you a sample of a food that you would not normally touch and it becomes one of your favorites. You are helping the environment by buying locally and not contributing to the pollution created from shipping food across the world. Also, by walking around and exploring the booths, you get some exercise in. So many benefits! How can you not love farmers’ markets?

The best thing about getting older… I believe that the most wonderful thing you gain with age is wisdom. Every day you should be learning something. And the more days you have, the more you will ultimately know.

Guilty pleasure… sushi, a fluffy blanket fresh from the dryer, and a good mystery book.

Thersea BlueMost memorable celebrity encounter/experience… I tend to run into celebrities… LITERALLY! But the best was when I was walking through LAX airport digging in my bag for my boarding pass, and I bumped into someone. When I looked up to apologize, I was looking right at Stevie Wonder! I could barely get an “I’m sorry” out before his bodyguards and entourage pulled me aside and led him to a private lounge. Oops!

My aesthetics mentor is… Jane Wurwand. She saw that depending where you live there was a massive difference in the amount of education required to become skin therapists. She sought to raise the expertise of the entire industry worldwide and helped to bring science into an industry that was focused on beauty only. To help with this, she founded The International Dermal Institute and the product line Dermalogica. We still have a ways to go, but she will always be one on the major footholds in the industry’s climb to greatness and recognition.

Words of wisdom… “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” – Les Brown

One thing you would never guess about me is… I never learned to ride a bicycle. I grew up on a busy street where the sidewalks were basically destroyed by the tree roots, so I did not have a safe place where I could ride.
