Cathy Nowak
age 57 | happily single | 3 children, 5 grandchildren | aesthetician and electrologist | electrolysis | San Antonio, Texas
I started my career… providing electrolysis treatments, then quickly learned I loved working with people and making them feel better about themselves. I got signed up for the first aesthetic class I could get into. I have been successfully treating clients for the past 17 years and have loved every second. I feel I found my destiny, helping people feel good about themselves as well as educating them on all the great advances that are out there to keep them looking young without surgery.
When I am not seeing clients…I am very involved with my family and with advancing my education, reading everything I can about cosmetic advances, and even trying out a few procedures myself.
Dreaming of… winning the Mega Millions (Isn’t this everyone’s dream!). I would love to take a cruise for about one month and relax and enjoy the sights that I have not yet experienced. I would love to cruise Alaska or the Mediterranean or anywhere the ship takes me.
If I were not an aesthetician… I could never imagine not being an aesthetician after working for a computer company for 12 years and not feeling fulfilled. I love what I do! My clientele keeps me very busy; I usually work over 40 hours a week sometimes without getting a break for lunch. I truly feel blessed that I can stay that busy.
Best skin care tip… wear your sun screen. It is the best prevention against wrinkles. I make sure to tell my clients to carry it in their purse and if they are in direct sunlight, reapply.
Most memorable celebrity experience… was meeting Huey Lewis while I was on vacation with my family in Tahoe.
The best thing about turning 50… I am enjoying my life. I try to take advantage of travel when I can, and feel confident in my business and career choices. I feel truly blessed that I can live another day to help someone feel good about themselves while looking in the mirror. I feel I have a better understanding about life and through this can cherish my relationships with my clients as they become part of me. After being in the industry for decades, we share stories and experiences on life, family, and health. When you are younger and haven’t had the time to grow older with some of your clients, I don’t feel these experiences are appreciated or treasured as by someone going into a second career may. I have learned so much about life through all of my clients.
Guilty Pleasure… I love hamburgers and cookies. However, it is not a good combination, especially over 50. Because it is not as easy keeping trim and fit as it was in my 20s.
